MIN#Gold Specimen-1 NEW!

Dazzling specimen of crystalline Native Gold rising up from white Quartz matrix!
This is easily one of the finest, most graceful and aesthetic Golds I've ever seen or offered! It is
totally crystalline in structure with dendrites, octahedrons, spinels, and more, all situated around a
central towering spire of pure brilliance. Near the top, the specimen becomes very arborescent and
takes on the appearance of a golden castle atop a mountain. The structure is an amazing sight under
magnification and has enough going on to keep someone occupied for quite some time. The surfaces
are super bright with a brilliant luster and flash from top the bottom. The specimen could actually be
displayed from either side as both are attractive with an equal amount of white Quartz at the base.
From the Eagle's Nest Mine, Placer County, California.
Measures 10 cm by 5.7 cm by 5.2 cm in total size.

MIN#Gold Specimen-1b Sold!

Exceptional and rare specimen of Native Leaf Gold in white Quartz matrix!
This is a MAJOR Gold specimen and of a quality seldom seen from the Oriental Mine in
California. The Gold appears as brilliant layers of leaf Gold with crystals present along
the edges of each seam. There are also flattened trigons apparent atop the surfaces of
the leaf Gold so you could actually say that the entire specimen is crystalline! The color
of the Gold is a super lustrous butter-yellow indicating a small Silver presence in the mix.
(Orange would indicate Copper). Specimens of Gold from the Oriental in this size range
are quite rare and specimens with this much Gold coverage are incredibly rare! This fine
specimen represents a unique opportunity for Gold collectors and mineral collectors alike!
From the Oriental Mine, Alleghany, Forest District, Sierra County, California.
Measures 6.8 cm by 6.3 cm by 5 cm in total size.

MIN#Gold Specimen-2 NEW!

Tremendous specimen of Native Gold on Quartz matrix!
This is one of the finest Native Gold specimens I've ever seen from China. Gold from China is anything
but common. The government there discourages the export of their domestic Gold and few specimens of
this calibre ever make it to the American marketplace. This is a small cabinet sized specimen, aesthetic and
displayable from either side, and we call it "The Dragon" because of its strong resemblance to the mythical
winged creature. In excellent condition with a vibrant luster and a rich color indicating a high metal purity.
From the Hunan Province of China.
Measurements - 10 cm by 6.7 cm by 6 cm in size (small cabinet).

MIN#Gold Specimen-3 NEW!

Brilliant specimen of crystalline Native Gold on Quartz!
This specimen represents the famous Eagle's Nest Mine very well indeed. It's completely crystalline from
top to bottom with flatterned trigons and crystal leaves. The edges are crystal covered as well and all display
a rich, beautiful color with a vibrant luster. The Native Gold rises upwards from a matrix of white Quartz matrix
and presents itself beautifully from either side. This is a true 360 degree display specimen with superb aesthetics.

MIN#Gold Specimen-4 NEW!

Fine old specimen of semi-crystalline Native Gold in and on Quartz matrix from Montana!
Super rich and super brilliant, this is the richest Montana Gold I've seen in quite some time. The Gold
appears inside a concave matrix recess and scattered about in small openings here and there about the
Quartz. It is semi-crystalline in structure with some smaller crystals and leaves in the lustrous mix.
The Gold cavity shown in the picture above measures 4 cm in size from top to bottom. Very impressive.

MIN#Gold Specimen-5 NEW!

A Native Gold on Quartz that is as graceful as it is dramatic!
This specimen is from the "Mystery Wind Mine" and it actually looks wind blown, like a tree being swept by
a strong ocean breeze. The Gold is incredibly brilliant and displays a crystalline dendritic structure for the most
part as it conveys great motion above the white Quartz matrix from which it emerges. Interesting story regarding
the Mystery Wind Mine. It was a name given to Eagle's Nest specimens in an attempt to conceal their true identity.
Apparently, fine Gold specimens were being high-graded from the mine in the middle of the night as if swept away by
a mystery wind. Those removing the specimens sold them using the Mystery Wind name, apparently in an attempt to
be humorous or cheeky or perhaps both. I preserve the name because it was recorded as such on the collection label.
From the Eagle's Nest Mine (Mystery Wind Mine), Sage Hill, Michigan Bluff District, Placer County, California.
Measures 5.5 cm by 6.5 cm by 1.5 cm in total size.

MIN#Gold Specimen-6 NEW!

Spectacular and incredibly brilliant specimen of crystalline Native Gold on white Quartz matrix!
This is one of those very fine specmens that you come across every now and then that simply amazes
and grabs your attention. It's a large miniature sized Gold which displays the aesthetics and presense of
a much larger and much more expensive specimen. Quality crystalline Golds like this one don't come
along very often, regardless of their size. This specimen is incredible lustrous and is composed of crystals
from top to bottom. The color of the Gold is a rich, brilliant yellow and the piece could be displayed from
either side as both are equally as crystalline and equally as attractive. One of the finest Golds in Tucson!

MIN#Gold Specimen-7 NEW!

Exceptional specimen featuring a brilliant leaf of Native Gold rising up from bright white Quartz matrix!
This very rare locality piece is a characteristic style found twice - In the 1880s and later in one pocket in the early 1990s. It is from a single
famous pocket which produced some of the finest golds seen since the gold rush era, via a lucky find by a metal detector on long-worked property.
The vertical leaf of gold is 3.5 cm tall. The pieces from this find are in major museums and collections around the world, and seldom come up for sale.
The piece is 360 degrees, complete all around, and displays elegantly from all sides. The leaf is quite sturdy and extends through the quartz matrix.
Last sold in the 1990s by Herb Obodda, this is one of my favorite Gold miniatures from the show. It is brilliant, glamourous, and incredibly aesthetic.

Christmas Pocket, Crystalline-Alabama Claim, Jamestown mine, Tuolumne Co., California.

MIN#Gold Specimen-8 NEW!

Brilliant specimen of crystalline Native Gold perched high atop stark white Quartz matrix!
I love the presentation of this specimen. To me it resembles a golden cloud, hovering atop a snowy
mountain peak. I don't often find Italian Golds that spark my interest but this specimen caught my
eye at the show and I acquired it for the website. The Gold is brilliant with an intense luster and the
cluster sits slightly elevated atop the matrix, giving the golden "cloud" the appearance of floating
above the white Quartz surfaces. In excellent condition, this specimen is an eye catcher in any cabinet.

MIN#Gold Specimen-9 NEW!

Brilliant specimen of crystalline Native Gold with white Quartz accenting!
This is one great looking specimen of Native Gold - definately one of the finest from the show.
It measures over 8 cm in height so it's small cabinet in size and I can't stress enough just how
incredibly bright and flashy the crystalline structure is, top to bottom! Looking at the specimen
using a 15X loupe reveals dozens and dozens of flattened trigons mixed with octahedrons and
dendrites. Near the very bottom the gold becomes more semi-crystalline as seams of Native
Gold pop in and out of the white Quartz matrix in this area. Smaller accenting bits of white
Quartz are also present here and there throughout the entire structure. The contrast between
the Gold and Quartz is gorgeous and the entire specimen is covered with an intense luster.
From the Eagle's Nest Mine, Placer County, California.

MIN#Gold Specimen-10 NEW!

Classic and quite rare specimen of Native Gold on matrix from Goldfield, Nevada!
This is a historical specimen from a major early mining period of Nevada's history. Goldfield
was mostly known for its Gold mines while Tonopah to the north was famous for its Silver deposits.
The two towns had their heyday around the same time period (1900-1920's) and are today still holding
on although Tonopah has done somewhat better thanks to a nearby military base. The district is very
historical and full of old mines. It's also one of my favorite areas to visit when I'm in the area. This
specimen features a rich scattering of Native Gold atop the front and back of the stained Quartz matrix.

numerous veins of the lustrous mineral alongside well formed Calaverite crystals. A closer look
with a loupe shows a surface which is literally covered with crystals, including one that measures
.6 cm in size! Specimens of this calibre from the old Cripple Creek Mining District are few and
far between and this is one of the richest and best examples of Calaverite that I've seen in years.

This is a very impressive crystalline Gold specimen from the site of America's first gold rush!
A rich scattering of fine Gold crystals is spread across the surface of this grainy Quartz matrix.
I don't have an exact date for this specimen but I would estimate it dates back to the mid to late
1800's. This would make a great addition to a type Gold or North Carolina mineral collection.

MIN#Gold Specimen-16 NEW!

Exquisite specimen featuring fine crystalline clusters of Native Gold with Quartz and Epidote!
This is easily one of the finest Olinghouse Gold specimens I've seen in recent years and they
aren't very common in the marketplace anymore. This specimen was pictured in a
Rocks and
Minerals, Vol. 79 - Issue #1, Jan/Feb 2004
article about the Olinghouse Mine and has resided
in a private collection ever since. There are at least three crystalline "nests" atop the matrix,
with the largest measuring just shy of 4 cm in size. The luster of these Gold wires is intense and
the brilliance is dazzling. One might be tempted to call this a specimen of Electrum due to the high
content of Silver in the mix and the color is a lighter shade of yellow. I should also point out that the
bottom side of the specimen is covered by a large amount of Gold wires still encased in white Calcite.
This is a wonderful specimen of Olinghouse Gold and the aesthetics and 3-dimensionality are superb.

MIN#Gold Specimen-23 NEW!

Historical and very rare specimen of Native Gold with Silver Sulfides on matrix from Nevada!
This cabinet sized plate is an amazing example of American and Nevada mining history. It's from
the old mining district of Tonopah, Nevada which was the home to a huge Silver mining boom in the
early 1900's. While Silver was the main ore discovered in Tonopah, there were also gold deposits
although most were a bit further south in Goldfield. This specimen displays a large Rhyolitic volcanic
plate, naturally seamed, into which flowed Native Gold. The Gold cooled to form micro-crystalline
clusters. The close up photos display the front and right edge of the specimen which is covered with
the brilliant precious metal. The Gold is mostly crystalline dendritic with some small trigons, leaves,
and mesh also present. Gray Silver Sulfide is also present in the matrix but the Gold is the main draw.
Specimens of this size with this much Gold coverage from Tonopah, Nevada are incredibly rare today.

Ultra-fine "feather" dendrites of Native Gold in white Quartz matrix!
This old time Gold specimen was labeled as "Florence Mine Gold" but the appearance
is more fitting of the workings from Manhattan, Nevada, about 75 miles due north. The
specimen dates back to the early 1900's and is actually quite rich, with a good amount
of Gold dendrites inside the bright white matrix. The bottom side of the specimen shows
a heavy peppering of Gold and nearly every side displays visible color. Out of the 119.2
grams weight of this specimen, I would estimate at least a third is Gold weight and possibly
more. That would place the specimen between 1.25 to 2 ounces of Gold. More important to
me however is the fine feather structure which reminds me of Hope's Nose specimens. This
is what attracted me to the specimen - that and the past history of the old mining locality.

Exceptional and quite rare old classic featuring Native Gold on Quartz crystals from Tonopah, Nevada!
This specimen dates to the 1910's - 1920's which was the heyday of Gold Mining in the Tonopah Mining
District. It is from the Siebert Shaft which was just to the north of Tonopah, a town which was primarily
known for its deposits of Silver. The matrix is composed of Quartz crystals and massive Quartz. It's full
of small pockets and openings which allowed for the formation of small crystals of Native Gold, most of
which are in grape-like clusters. I've had a great time inspecting every small opening with my loupe and
almost all are lined with bright, lustrous crystals of Native Gold. This is a very rich specimen and one of the
finest I've seen from the Tonopah District. It comes with an original handwritten label, misspellings and all.

and was displayed in the Beatty Exchange Club
for years until it was donated to the Keck Museum.
I've only seen three specimens of Gold from the Rhyolite District and two of those are in this update.

Measures 4.5 cm by 2.2 cm by 3.5 cm in total size.
