GORGEOUS deep red rhombs of Rhodochrosite
atop needle Quartz with Pyrite and Tetrahedrite!
This specimen has that rich cherry-red color that makes Sweet Home Rhodos world famous! It
also
has more than its fair share of gemminess and flash! These glassy rhombs are well placed
among the
Quartz needles and further accented by lustrous gray Tetrahedrite and golden Pyrite
crystals. No
damage to speak of, the rhombs are complete and sharp. A good looking miniature from the
show!
From the Pincushion II Pocket, Fluorite Raise, Sweet Home
Mine in Alma, Park County, Colorado.
Measures 5 cm by 7.4 cm in size.

Gorgeous rhomb of gem Rhodochrosite
with modified Fluorites, Apatite, and Quartz!
A stunning specimen with a little bit of almost
everything! The rhomb has wonderful Sweet Home color
and that internal glow that collectors strive for. The rhomb itself measures 2 cm in size
from corner to
corner and is complete on all sides. The very backside is slightly matted where it formed
against matrix
but it is all there. The right corner has a small amount of pocket flaking which is
completely natural and
commonly seen in Sweet Home Rhodos. One thing that sets off this specimen are the Fluorite
octahedrons
on the front left edge. They are pristine and partially frosted! Other Fluorites are
scattered about the
Quartz matrix as are small Apatite crystals! Many of these Apatites can be seen attached
to the vertical
Quartz point on the far left side of the specimen. They are nearly colorless with a very
pale greenish hue.
From Nate's Pocket, Mini King Raise, Sweet Home Mine, Alma,
Colorado.
Measures 3 cm by 3.9 cm by 2.6 cm in total size.

perfect and gorgeous and are
accented by fine Quartz needles (one is doubly terminated) and a sprinkling of
Tetrahedrite.
The largest rhomb measures 1.8 cm in size and the smaller rhomb to the left measures 1.3
cm.
Both have great color and are fully translucent to transparent!

Tremendous specimen of Rhodochrosite atop
a large Pyrite with Tetrahedrite and Quartz!
One of the most impressive combo specimens I've seen from the
Sweet Home Mine and easily
the largest Pyrite crystal, this specimen was formally in the private collection of Bryan
Lees.
The main rhomb at the top measures over 4 cm in size from corner to corner and is a deep
red with an internal glow that radiates through the entire translucent crystal! The bottom
side
and far right side faces are misted and this is probably what helps the color become so
intense.
The Rhodo rhomb is in perfect condition and sits atop a 2.3 cm Pyrite which is as shiny as
it
is striated. A sprinkling of dark Tetrahedrite and needle Quartz crystals accent the
surface.
All in all, this is a MAJOR Rhodochrosite and possibly the finest combination of Rhodo and
Pyrite ever found at the Sweet Home. A specimen that is easily worthy of the finest
collections.
From Collector's Pocket, 2nd Crosscut, Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Colorado.
Measures 5.6 cm by 4 cm by 3.4 cm in total size.

Rich plate of Rhodochrosite rhombs with
Quartz point accenting!
This good looking plate is nearly all Rhodochrosite! There's a stray
Quartz needle here and there
but they only accent the overwhelming red. In great shape with only peripheral trim-zone
contacts.

Measures 4.6 cm by 5.1 cm in size.

Beautiful reddish-pink crystal clusters of
Rhodochrosite on Quartz!
A sweet specimen which packs more of a Rhodo punch than most
specimens I see from this locale.
The pink clusters are in excellent shape with no contacts to speak of. They add a nice
sparkle in
contrast to the glassy crystal faces of the Quartz crystals which cover the matrix. Very
pretty!

Glowing red rhombs of Rhodochrosite
atop Tetrahedrite and Quartz matrix!
This Rhodochrosite is a killer
rhomb of the best color and gemminess. It measures 3 cm in size from tip
to tip so its a big crystal and sits atop a second rhomb measuring 1.7 cm in size. The
second rhomb is
partially coated on the left side by a sparkling drusy which really makes the specimen
jump out at the
viewer. The color is another thing that will catch your eye when you see the piece. Both
rhombs sit atop
a matrix of Tetrahedrite and Quartz. The backside Rhodo face is slightly irregular from
matrix influence.
From the Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Park County, Colorado.
Measures 3.1 cm by 3 cm by 3.5 cm in total size.

Lustrous crystal balls of Rhodochrosite
with Barite tabs on Romanechite!
I don't come across very many of these and most are probably in private collections.
This specimen features half a dozen lustrous Rhodochrosites and the color could best
be described as red with just a hint of orange. The Barite tab at top is transparent and
absolutely pristine! Both minerals sit atop a matrix of botryoidal Romanechite.
From the Lone Tree Mine, Humboldt County, Nevada.
Measures 7.8 cm by 7.3 cm in size.

Stunning specimen of Rhodochrosite on
needle Quartz with Hubnerite!
This is one of the finest Hedgehog miniatures that I've seen! The largest rhomb
measures 2.2 cm in size and displays a vibrance of color that you usually don't find
in Hedgehog Pocket specimens. All the Rhodochrosite surfaces are glassy and complete
with some natural facial stepping on the left corner. The rhomb is completely pristine!

Cute specimen of Rhodochrosite with Quartz
crystals from Butte!
A classic specimen from the old mining operations which probably
dates back
to the 1920's or 1930's. The rhombs are sharp and in good condition with only
a few contacts. The color is very nice and the rhombs are clean of the coating you
often see on Butte Rhodos. The Quartz points are all terminated and undamaged.
From the Emma Mine, Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana.
Measures 4.7 cm by 2.6 cm in size.

Beautiful Rhodochrosite rhomb perched
between Tetrahedrite and Pyrite with Quartz!
The rhomb is perfect and measures 1.5 cm in size. Smaller
Rhodochrosite rhombs can be seen
beneath the Tetrahedrite and Pyrite crystals and many have a bottom side Quartz accenting.
I should point out that the Tetrahedrite crystal at top left measures 1.3 cm in size!

Gemmy rhombs of Rhodochrosite with Golden
Fluorite and Quartz!
The rhombs are complete, measuring 1.3 cm and 1.2 cm in size.
Smaller rhombs accent the
main crystals as do gemmy golden-purple Fluorite cubes with white inclusions on the left
sides.
These white inclusions are characteristic of the Porcelain Pocket and were the reason for
the name
due to their resemblance to white porcelain. Overall this specimen is in great shape with
only one
incomplete rhomb on the left edge which could easily be trimmed away. The color and luster
are great!

EXCEPTIONAL PLATE OF CLASSIC
RHODOCHROSITE!
The above specimen is a Climax Mine Rhodochrosite on Quartz
point matrix!
Anyone who knows Rhodos knows just how incredibly difficult
it is to find a good Climax
Rhodochrosite. Occasionally I see incomplete rhombs without matrix or even rarer - a
partial or
coated rhomb on matrix. But the holy grail for Rhodo collectors is a good sized plate of
Quartz
crystals with large, complete, deeply colored (and uncoated) rhombs and it took me over
twelve
years to find a specimen that met every one of those qualities. Quite frankly, I haven't
seen
or owned a better specimen from the Climax Mine! This specimen is so good that it could
be confused for a Sweet Home or even Pasto Bueno Rhodo but it is 100% Climax which
makes it so much rarer and all the more special. It's also in excellent condition with
only
a scattering of incomplete Quartz points to speak of and they definately don't detract!
Atop some of the points is a slight coating of Calcite which leads to the gorgeous rhombs
of Rhodochrosite which are complete and glow a translucent cherry-red. They measure
4.6 cm, 2.6 cm, and several of 1 cm in size! I count at least a dozen rhombs of various
sizes!
From the Ceresco Ridge Area of the Climax Mine, Fremont
Pass, Lake County, Colorado.
Measures 8.9 cm by 11.3 cm in total size.

Beautiful specimen featuring Rhodochrosite
in cluster atop fine Quartz crystals!
Good quality Rhodochrosite with decent color is getting almost impossible to find at the
shows.
The translucent-gem rhombs here average 1 cm to 1.5 cm in size and I count at least twenty
of them.
This specimen displays enough Rhodochrosite to impress anyone and the price is still
reasonable!

At first glace, this would be a great
looking plate of Sweet Home Rhodochrosite!
It's actually a Chinese Rhodochrosite specimen however and the finds from there
continue to amaze as they get better and better. I wouldn't call them Sweet Home
quality but they are getting very close. These 1 cm rhombs are translucent with
the best color to yet appear from China. Also, the matrix is now a more sturdy
Quartz needle on Chalcedony in contrast to the slightly fragile Dolomitic matrix
of years past. This was one of the finest plates available at this year's show!
From Wuzhou, Guangxi Province of China.
Measures 6 cm by 10.4 cm in size.

RARE COMBO!! Lustrous crystals of
Acanthite with Rhodochrosite, Dolomite, and Fluorite!
I think there were only two of these very rare combination specimens in Denver and this
one
really stood out. The Rhodos aren't perfect and exhibit some stress fracturing but still
provide
a beautiful backdrop for the clusters of stacked Acanthite crystals! The Acanthites cover
the
surface well and the association between Rhodochrosite and Acanthite is always a great
find!

This specimen was stolen at
the Tucson Mineral Show in 2007.
(If anyone sees this Rhodochrosite, please let know. There is a reward!)
EXCEPTIONAL!! Very rare specimen of
Rhodochrosite on drusy Quartz matrix!
These rhombs are so red that some may confuse them with Sweet Home Rhodochrosite!
This fine specimen is from the Grizzly Bear Mine in Ouray County, Colorado. It
is the finest example of Rhodochrosite ON MATRIX that I have seen from this scarce
locality in many years. The rarity of a specimen of this quality from the Grizzly Bear
cannot
be underestimated. I see more quality Rhodochrosites from the Sunnyside than I do from
here and the only locality that I've seen less matrix specimens from is the Climax Mine.
This piece is definately a major find for any Rhodochrosite or Colorado mineral collector.
It measures 9.5 cm by 8.7 cm with 3 cm rhombs! The specimen is labeled as circa 1969.
